Regular Season Round 18: Vigren - Leon 90-84

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fourth ranked Vigren's (9-3) home victory over 5th ranked Leon (7-6) in Zamora 90-84 on Sunday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 24-19. But Leon won second period 25-22. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Vigren won last quarter 30-25. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Leon's players. It was a good game for British Matthew Don (201-93, college: Cameron) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. American forward Michael Balkovic (198-93, college: Caldwell, agency: Dynamics Global Management) contributed with 19 points and 5 rebounds (on 8-of-10 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Vigren players scored in double figures. Vigren's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American forward Wykevin Bazemore (193-93, college: Winston Salem) replied with 39 points (!!!) and 8 rebounds and his fellow American import forward Trevor Berkeley (198-92, college: Drake) added 19 points and 10 rebounds in the effort for Leon. Vigren have an impressive six-game winning streak. They moved-up to second place in Group A-B. Loser Leon dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Vigren will face Betanzos (#12) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leon will play against Mieres BVM (#4) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
