Regular Season Round 17: SEQ - Canberra 81-76

Date: February 14, 2016
There was no surprise in Crestmead where 9th ranked Canberra Capitals (1-22) were defeated by fourth ranked SEQ (14-8) 81-76. However just five-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Canberra Capitals were ahead by 1 point after three quarters before a 30-24 charge of SEQ, which allowed them to win the game. Nigerian-American Ify Ibekwe (187-89, college: Arizona, agency: LBM Management) nailed a double-double by scoring 18 points and 17 rebounds for the winning side and American forward Jordan Hooper (188-92, college: Nebraska) accounted for 22 points and 8 rebounds. The former international guard Stephanie Talbot (188-94) came up with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 5 assists and American forward Denesha Stallworth (190-92, college: Kentucky, agency: LBM Management) added 21 points and 7 rebounds respectively for Canberra Capitals in the defeat. Five SEQ and four Canberra Capitals players scored in double figures. The victory was the sixth consecutive win for SEQ. Newly promoted SEQ maintains fourth place with 14-8 record. Canberra Capitals at the other side stay dead last with 22 lost games. SEQ's next round opponent will be higher ranked Dandenong Rangers (#3) on the road and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Canberra Capitals will play against Bendigo Spirit (#5) and hope to win that game.
