There was a minor upset when 7th ranked Desio (11-10) was defeated at home by ninth ranked Varese Coels. (9-12) 78-72 on Sunday. Varese Coels. made 19-of-21 free shots (90.5 percent) during the game. They also forced 19 Desio turnovers. The former international point guard Federico Bolzonella (184-84) stepped up and scored 20 points and 4 assists for the winners and power forward Giulio Castelletta (206-92) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Varese Coels.'s coach Marco Cattalani used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. The best for the losing side was center Filippo Politi (205-80) with a double-double by scoring 12 points, 12 rebounds and 5 blocks (went 8 for 8 at the free throw line) and guard Daniele Quartieri (195-87, agency: SPORTlab Agency) scored 12 points and 5 assists. Five Desio players scored in double figures. Varese Coels. maintains ninth place in B with 9-12 record. Loser Desio dropped to the eighth position with ten games lost. Varese Coels. will face Sangiorgese (#14) in San Giorgio in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game.
