Regular Season Round 24: Valka/Valga - VEF Riga 64-82

The game in Valga supposed to be also worth to mention about. Sixth ranked VEF Riga (11-3) played at the court of 7th ranked Valka/Valga (7-7). VEF Riga did not have too big problems ending evening with a very confident victory 82-64. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Valka/Valga. The game without a history. VEF Riga led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 42 of its points in the paint compared to Valka/Valga's 20. They outrebounded Valka/Valga 41-25 including 27 on the defensive glass. It was a great shooting night for VEF Riga especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 58.8 percentage. The best player for the winners was center Ricmonds Vilde (211-90, college: Houston Baptist, agency: Pro Partner Sports Management) who scored 12 points and 8 rebounds. American forward Josh Bostic (196-87, college: Findlay, OH) chipped in 15 points. VEF Riga's coach Janis Gailitis allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Jurijs Aleksejevs (202-85) who recorded 15 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and forward Martins Berkis (198-85) added 16 points respectively. Defending champion maintains sixth position with 11-3 record. Newly promoted Valka/Valga keeps the seventh place with seven games lost. VEF Riga will have a break next round. Valka/Valga will play on the road against Jelgava (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
