Regular Season Round 24: BK Ogre - Jurmala 73-72

Date: February 17, 2016
Bottom-ranked BK Ogre managed to get a fourth victory, breaking the fifteen-game losing streak. This time newly promoted BK Ogre edged fourth-ranked Jurmala 73-72. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Jurmala. It looked good early as Jurmala took a 2-point small lead at the end of first quarter. But then BK Ogre had a 27-20 second period charge getting the lead and Jurmala was not able to take back game control losing it eventually 72-73. Jurmala was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Lauris Mizis (198-89) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 16 points and 12 rebounds and center Guntis Sipolins (206-93) who added 18 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was American forward Andrew Smith (206-92, college: Liberty) with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds and Ivars Rihards Zvigurs (198-95) produced a double-double by scoring 14 points, 11 rebounds and 5 blocks. Four Jurmala players scored in double figures. Jurmala's coach Arnis Vecvagars rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. BK Ogre (4-19) moved-up to tenth place, which they share with LU. Jurmala at the other side keeps the fourth position with 11 games lost. BK Ogre will play against higher ranked Liepaja/Triobet (#3) on the road in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Jurmala will play against the league's second-placed Valmiera where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
