Rather expected game in Avila where 5th ranked Pinar (7-11) was defeated by second ranked Ciego (12-3) 74-60 on Wednesday. Ciego forced 21 Pinar turnovers. The best player for the winners was center Yoan Haity who scored 32 points and 5 rebounds (perfect from the field making all twelve shots !!!). Guard Ricardo Oviedo (193-89) chipped in 10 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. Forward Jasiel Morales (196-84) produced 12 points and Dariel Sotero (-88) added 10 points respectively for the guests. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Ciego have an impressive nine-game winning streak. They maintain second position with 12-3 record behind leader Villa Clara. Pinar lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth place with 11 games lost. Ciego will meet bottom-ranked Santiago (#8) on the road in the next round where they are favorite. Pinar will play against Guantanamo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
