Regular Season Round 22: Macae - Universo/Vitoria 88-79

Bottom-ranked Macae managed to get a fifth victory, breaking the seven-game losing streak. This time they won against thirteenth-ranked Universo/Vitoria 88-79. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Universo/Vitoria won fourth quarter 32-31. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Macae made 26-of-28 charity shots (92.9 percent) during the game. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 25 assists. Universo/Vitoria was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Eddy Carvalho (196-87) notched 29 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and the former international Marcio Dornelles (196-75) supported him with 22 points and 8 rebounds (made all of his fourteen free throws !!!). Even 21 points and 6 rebounds (made all of his seven free throws) by Spanish Alvaro Calvo (202-83, agency: Dynamics Global Management) did not help to save the game for Universo/Vitoria. American guard Jason Smith (183-83, college: Al.-Huntsville) added 14 points and 4 assists for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Universo/Vitoria's coach Regis Marrelli tested ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Macae (5-15) moved-up to fourteenth place. Universo/Vitoria lost third consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Macae will play against higher ranked SKY/Basquete (#4) in Aldeota in the next round and they do not belong to the favorites in that game. Universo/Vitoria will play on the road against the league's leader Flamengo (#1) having rather not much hope for a victory.
