Regular Season Round 24: Valmiera - Liepaja/Triobet 82-71

An interesting game for Valmiera (18-6) which hosted in Valmiera one of their biggest challengers Liepaja/Triobet (16-8). Second ranked Valmiera managed to get a 11-point victory 82-71. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Liepaja/Triobet. The game was mostly controlled by Valmiera. Liepaja/Triobet managed to win fourth quarter 28-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Valmiera looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. It was a good game for the former international guard Armands Skele (192-83) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists. The former international forward Aigars Skele (192-92) contributed with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Valmiera players scored in double figures. Valmiera's coach Ainars Zvirgzdins used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Center Klavs Cavars (205-96) replied with a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and naturalized Italian forward Gints Antrops (202-82, agency: Interperformances) added 19 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Liepaja/Triobet. Valmiera maintains second position with 18-6 record having just two points less than leader Ventspils. Liepaja/Triobet at the other side keeps the third place with eight games lost. Valmiera are looking forward to face Jurmala (#4) on the road in the next round. Liepaja/Triobet will play against BK Ogre and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
