There was no surprise in Athens where 13th ranked Arkadikos (4-15) was crushed by second ranked Panathinaikos (18-1) 90-69 on Thursday. The game was mostly controlled by Panathinaikos. Arkadikos was better in third quarter 18-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Panathinaikos looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Arkadikos was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. International point guard Nick Calathes (198-89, college: Florida) fired 4 points, 6 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners. The former international forward Vladimir Jankovic (202-90, agency: Octagon Europe) chipped in 15 points. American guard Cameron Jones (193-89, college: N.Arizona) produced 14 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import guard Todd Brown (196-87, college: Wright St.) added 8 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. The victory was the fourth consecutive win for Panathinaikos. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with Olympiacos. Newly promoted Arkadikos keeps the thirteenth place with 15 games lost. Panathinaikos will face PAOK (#7) in Thessaloniki in the next round which should be theoretically another easy game. Arkadikos will play at home against Apollon Patras (#9) and hope to win that game.
