Everything went according to plan when fourth ranked Palermo (13-7) outscored at home 6th ranked Viterbo (10-10) 67-42 on Saturday. The game without a history. Palermo led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Viterbo to just 5 points in first quarter. Palermo held Viterbo to an opponent 21.9 percent shooting from the field compared to 43.3 percent accuracy of the winners. Palermo forced 19 Viterbo turnovers and outrebounded them 45-32 including a 33-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Palermo made 7 blocks. Worth to mention a great performance of power forward Elena Riccardi (187-82) who helped to win the game recording 10 points and 9 rebounds and Lithuanian Julita Bungaite (187-87, college: Hawaii, agency: Promotex) who added 12 points and 8 rebounds during the contest. Palermo's coach Piero Musumeci felt very confident using 11 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guard Manuela Riccobono (170-97) responded with 9 points and 5 rebounds and guard Lorenza Spirito (178-90) scored 10 points and 5 rebounds. Newly promoted Palermo maintains fourth position in A2 with 13-7 record. Loser Viterbo dropped to the eighth place with ten games lost. Palermo will face league's leader La Spezia on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Viterbo will play against Empoli (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
