Ninth-ranked Santos (11-25) gave a tough game to fourth ranked Halcones Rojos (21-17) in Veracruz. Halcones Rojos managed to secure only three-point victory 86-83. However their fans expected much easier game. 26 personal fouls committed by Santos helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. It was a very good performance for forward Jose Gutierrez (197-88) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 13 points and 11 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field). American-Puerto Rican Michael Rosario (190-90, college: Florida) contributed with 22 points for the winners. Five Halcones Rojos players scored in double figures. American forward Chris Cayole (201-85, college: St.Michael's) replied with 26 points and 7 rebounds and the former international point guard Omar Quintero (182-81, college: S.Nazarene) added 23 points (made all of his seven free throws) in the effort for Santos. Halcones Rojos maintains fourth position with 21-17 record. Santos lost sixth consecutive game. Newly promoted team dropped to the tenth place with 25 games lost. Halcones Rojos will have a break next round. Santos will play at home against Correcaminos (#8) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
