Second Stage Round 7: Sozh-GGU - Gorizont II 39-66

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Gomel where 5th ranked Sozh-GGU (14-10) was rolled over by sixth ranked Gorizont II (11-12) 66-39 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gorizont II. Sozh-GGU managed to win third quarter 15-6. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Sozh-GGU to just 4 points in fourth quarter. Gorizont II held Sozh-GGU to an opponent 23.7 percent shooting from the field compared to 41.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Gorizont II forced 24 Sozh-GGU turnovers. Strangely Sozh-GGU outrebounded Gorizont II 48-35 including 34 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for the former international point guard Natallia Baklaha (170-93) who led her team to a victory scoring 17 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. Guard Volha Gromik (180-93) helped adding 10 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals. Four Gorizont II players scored in double figures. At the losing side center Tatsiana Rebianchuk (186-88) responded with 7 points and 22 rebounds and forward Elena Gorelikova (178-92) scored 15 points. Gorizont II maintains sixth place with 11-12 record. Sozh-GGU at the other side keeps the fifth position with ten games lost. Gorizont II are looking forward to face Victoria (#7) in Grodno in the next round. Sozh-GGU will play on the road against Kameya in Smolensk and is hoping to win this game.
