Regular Season Round 19: Lucentum - El Olivar 72-73

A very close game took place in Alicante between El Olivar and Meridiano Alicante. Thirteenth ranked El Olivar (6-13) got a very close victory on the road over higher ranked Meridiano Alicante (11-8). El Olivar managed to escape with a 1-point win 73-72 on Sunday evening. It was quite big embarassment for the home team. Meridiano Alicante was trailing by 1 point at halftime but managed to get 4-point lead after three quarters before a 22-17 charge of El Olivar, which allowed them to win the game. They also forced 20 Meridiano Alicante turnovers and outrebounded them 37-26 including 23 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for Lithuanian forward Zygimantas Riauka (206-93, college: Wisc.-Parkside) who led his team to a victory scoring 22 points and 9 rebounds. Point guard Sergi Garcia (191-97) helped adding 18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 steals. At the losing side point guard Adrian Fuentes (183-87) responded with 12 points and 5 assists and American guard Adrian Bowie (189-89, college: Maryland, agency: HMS) scored 12 points. Four Meridiano Alicante players scored in double figures. Meridiano Alicante's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Newly promoted El Olivar maintains thirteenth place with 6-13 record. Loser Meridiano Alicante keeps the sixth position with eight games lost. El Olivar will meet at home higher ranked CB Tarragona 2017 (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Meridiano Alicante will play against Zornotza and hope to secure a win.
