Regular Season Round 40: Kanazawa Samuraiz - Hiroshima L. 118-49

The game between seventh ranked Kanazawa Samuraiz (20-16) and 12th ranked Hiroshima L. (1-31) in Ishikawa on Sunday ended with biggest points difference. Kanazawa Samuraiz outscored guests from Hiroshima 118-49. The game was mostly controlled by Kanazawa Samuraiz. Hiroshima L. was better in fourth quarter 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Hiroshima L. to just 5 points in third quarter. Kanazawa Samuraiz dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Hiroshima L.'s 18. Kanazawa Samuraiz forced 19 Hiroshima L. turnovers and outrebounded them 37-22 including a 32-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Kanazawa Samuraiz shot the lights out from three sinking 12 long-distance shots on high 54.5 percentage. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists comparing to just 7 passes made by Hiroshima L.'s players. It was a very good performance for guard Shohei Goto (180-92) who helped to win the game recording 30 points and 5 rebounds. American power forward Andrew Fitzgerald (202-90, college: Oklahoma) contributed with 12 points and 9 rebounds (on 6-of-7 shooting from the field) for the winners. Four Kanazawa Samuraiz players scored in double figures. Kanazawa Samuraiz's coach Yukinori Suzuki felt very confident that he used 11 players and allowed the starting five to rest. Hiroshi Sato (-91) replied with 10 points and 5 rebounds (made all of his twelve free throws !!!) and Tetsuya Maemura added 13 points in the effort for Hiroshima L.Kanazawa Samuraiz have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 20-16 record. Hiroshima L. lost eighteenth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the twelfth place with 31 games lost. Kanazawa Samuraiz will face higher ranked Shiga L-Stars (#6) on the road in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Hiroshima L. will play against Hamamatsu Phoenix (#5) and hope to win that game.
