Rather expected game when 10th ranked Gijon (3-9) was defeated at home by seventh ranked Naron (7-7) 74-59 on Sunday. The guests trailed by 2 points after three quarters before their 22-5 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Naron dominated on the defensive end, holding Gijon to just 5 points in fourth quarter. They also forced 25 Gijon turnovers. Gijon was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Guard Samuel Barros (190-98) fired 19 points and 4 assists for the winners (made all of his eleven free throws !!!). American forward Dylan Sparkman (208-93, college: Ill.-Springfield, agency: Dynamics Global Management) chipped in 15 points and 7 rebounds. Four Naron players scored in double figures. Forward Jorge Escapa (198-92) produced a double-double by scoring 17 points and 10 rebounds and forward Edmundo Martin (204-91) added 9 points and 5 rebounds respectively for lost side. Naron moved-up to sixth place in Group A-B, which they share with Leon. Newly promoted Gijon keeps the tenth position with nine games lost. Naron will face Rosalia (#11) in Santiago de Camp. in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Gijon will play on the road against Chantada and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
