Regular Season Round 23: Oleggio - Piombino 96-95

There was an upset when higher ranked Piombino (14-9) was edged on the road by twelfth ranked Oleggio (10-13) 96-95 on Sunday. Oleggio made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Piombino was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. Forward Riccardo Coviello (197-88) saved the victory with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 17 rebounds. Point guard Andrea Resca (184-93) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists for the winners. Point guard Mattia Venucci (185-90) answered with 40 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and center Edoardo Persico (208-87, agency: Players Group) added 15 points and 15 rebounds in the effort for Piombino. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Oleggio moved-up to ninth place in B, which they share with Varese Coels. Loser Piombino dropped to the fifth position with nine games lost. Oleggio will face higher ranked Cento (#3) at home in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Piombino will play against Santarcangelo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
