Regular Season Round 23: Santiago - Pinar del Rio 78-51

Date: February 23, 2016
Bottom-ranked Santiago managed to get a sixth victory, breaking the series of three consecutive losses on Tuesday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Pinar 78-51. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 27-point difference proves that Santiago was well-prepared to that game. They also forced 20 Pinar turnovers and outrebounded them 32-19. The best player for the winners was Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 11 rebounds. Swingman Rider Giron (188-91) chipped in 12 points and 5 rebounds. Jaciel Martinez (190-91) produced 12 points and the former international point guard Yosiel Monterrey (185-88) added 11 points and 4 steals respectively for the guests. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Santiago maintains eighth place with 6-14 record. Pinar lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with 14 games lost. Santiago will again meet at home higher ranked Pinar (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Pinar will have a break next round.
