Regular Season Round 24: Villa Clara - Artemisa 74-73

Fifth-ranked Los Toros (8-14) made lots of trouble for first ranked Villa Clara (16-6) in Santa Clara on Wednesday. Villa Clara managed to secure only one-point victory 74-73. However their fans expected much easier game. Villa Clara dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Los Toros' 34. They outrebounded Los Toros 36-24 including 16 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was international center Yoel Cubillas (204-94) who had a double-double by scoring 13 points and 16 rebounds. Guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) chipped in 20 points and 6 rebounds. Four Villa Clara players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international center Humberto Garcia (203-85) who recorded 7 points and 10 rebounds and swingman Joice Daudinot (194-85) added 12 points and 4 steals respectively. Villa Clara maintains first position with 16-6 record. Los Toros at the other side keep the fifth place with 14 games lost. They share the position with Pinar del Rio. Villa Clara are looking forward to face Pinar (#5) in Rio in the next round. Los Toros will play on the road against Guantanamo and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
