Regular Season Round 41: Pioneros - Fuerza Regia 96-89

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Cancun. Second ranked Pioneros faced 3rd placed Fuerza Regia. Host Pioneros (33-4) defeated guests from Monterrey (22-16) 96-89. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Fuerza Regia. Pioneros dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Fuerza Regia's 34. The best player for the winners was American-Puerto Rican point guard Denis Clemente (183-86, college: Kansas St.) who scored 25 points and 4 assists. The former international Hector Hernandez (205-85, college: Fresno St., agency: Pro Sports) chipped in 17 points and 5 rebounds. American forward Eugene Phelps (198-90, college: Long Beach St.) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import forward Daniel Orton (208-90, college: Kentucky) added 21 points and 4 blocks (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) respectively for the guests. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Fuerza Regia's coach Jose Martinez Boglio rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Pioneros have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain second place with 33-4 record having 3 victories less than leader Soles. Fuerza Regia at the other side keeps the third position with 16 games lost. Pioneros are again looking forward to face Fuerza Regia (#3) in Monterrey in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Fuerza Regia will have a break next round.
