Regular Season Round 25: Pinar del Rio - Villa Clara 92-74

The most surprising game was a loss of top-ranked Villa Clara (16-7) in Rio on Friday night. Visitors were defeated by fifth ranked Pinar (9-14) 92-74. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Villa Clara. Pinar forced 19 Villa Clara turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of Dariel Sotero (-88) who helped to win the game recording 21 points, 8 assists and 5 steals. Forward Jasiel Morales (196-84) contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 10 rebounds for the winners. Four Pinar players scored in double figures. The former international swingman Andy Boffil (190-82) answered with 26 points and 5 assists and guard Neslier Abreu (187-93) added 15 points and 5 assists in the effort for Villa Clara. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Pinar maintains fifth place with 9-14 record, which they share with Artemisa. Villa Clara at the other side still keeps top position with seven games lost. Pinar is again looking forward to face league's leader Villa Clara in Santa Clara in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Villa Clara will have a break next round.
