Regular Season Round 21: Brindisi - Viareggio 67-77

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Brindisi (4-17) was defeated at home by tenth ranked Viareggio (8-13) 77-67 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Viareggio. Brindisi was better in third quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Viareggio won last quarter 18-9. They also forced 26 Brindisi turnovers. Brindisi was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was guard Federica Iannucci (175-93) who scored 31 points and 7 steals. Swingman Lisa Tripalo (176-87) chipped in a double-double by scoring 12 points and 15 rebounds. Four Viareggio players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was the former international swingman Valentina Siccardi (182-82) who recorded 18 points and 9 rebounds and Spanish center Deborah Rodriguez (187-89) added 9 points and 8 rebounds respectively. Brindisi's coach Gaetano Ermito tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Newly promoted Viareggio maintains tenth place in A2 with 8-13 record. Brindisi at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the thirteenth position with 17 games lost. Viareggio will face Ancona (#14) at home in the next round. Brindisi will play against Palermo and hope to win that game.
