Second Stage Round 8: Gorizont II - Victoria 52-67

We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Minsk where 6th ranked Gorizont II (12-13) was defeated by seventh ranked Victoria (11-16) 67-52. The game was mostly controlled by Victoria. Gorizont II was better in third quarter 18-14. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Victoria held Gorizont II to an opponent 22.2 percent shooting from the field compared to 37.9 percent accuracy of the winners. Strangely Gorizont II outrebounded Victoria 56-38 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Swingman Arina Masko (175-99) orchestrated the victory by scoring 18 points and 7 rebounds. Power forward Mariya Vasilevko (183-99) contributed with 14 points and 9 rebounds for the winners. Four Victoria players scored in double figures. The former international point guard Natallia Baklaha (170-93) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 10 rebounds, 6 assists and 4 steals and point guard Viktoryia Lednik (176-95) added 13 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Gorizont II. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Victoria have an impressive five-game winning streak. They maintain seventh position with 11-16 record. Gorizont II at the other side keeps the sixth place with 13 games lost.
