Regular Season Round 20: Real Canoe - La Roda 77-68

There was no surprise in Madrid where 11th ranked La Roda (5-12) was defeated by fifth ranked Real Canoe (10-7) 77-68 on Saturday. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning the initial quarter 15-11. But La Roda won second period 26-24. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Real Canoe made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. Real Canoe outrebounded La Roda 33-22 including a 25-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. La Roda was plagued by 28 personal fouls down the stretch. Worth to mention a great performance of forward Ignacio Fort (200-83) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 14 points and 11 rebounds and center Jose Maria Balmon (204-81, agency: Duran International) who added 17 points during the contest. Five Real Canoe players scored in double figures. Real Canoe's coach used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. American guard Stephon Carter (193-91, college: CSU Bakersfield) responded with 21 points and Senegalese power forward Michel Diouf (208-90) scored 11 points and 8 rebounds. Real Canoe moved-up to fourth place in Group B, which they share with Real Madrid II and Azuqueca. La Roda at the other side, also newcomer in the league, dropped to the thirteenth position with 12 games lost. Real Canoe will face higher ranked Alcazar (#3) on the road in the next round and it may be the game of the week. La Roda will play against the league's second-placed Quintanar (#2) and hope to win that game.
