Everything went according to plan when seventh ranked Le Portel (11-8) beat at home 9th ranked Nantes (9-10) 74-65 on Saturday. The hosts trailed by 8 points at the halftime before their 47-30 charge in the second half, which allowed them to win the game. Le Portel made 20-of-22 free shots (90.9 percent) during the game. Le Portel outrebounded Nantes 38-25 including 26 on the defensive glass. American center Jakim Donaldson (204-83, college: Edinboro) fired a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds (made all of his eight free throws) for the winners. The former international Gary Chathuant (190-83) chipped in 15 points and 5 rebounds. Four Le Portel players scored in double figures. American Storm Warren (201-88, college: LSU, agency: I.D.S. Law) produced 15 points and 6 rebounds and the other American import power forward Allen Durham (198-88, college: Grace Bible) added 13 points respectively for lost side. Nantes' coach Franck Collineau rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Le Portel moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Provence Basket and Poitiers. Loser Nantes keeps the ninth position with ten games lost. They share it with Denain and Charleville. Le Portel will meet Denain Voltaire (#10) on the road in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Nantes will play against JA Vichy and hope to secure a win.
