Regular Season Round 16: Athinaikos - Proteas 79-77

The most exciting game of round 16 in the A1 took place in Athens. This derby game ended with only two-point defeat on the road of one of their biggest challengers Proteas (9-7) to sixth ranked Athinaikos (8-8) 79-77 on Sunday evening. American guard Hailey Dunham (188-87, college: USC, agency: Merit Management Group) fired 27 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners. The other American import guard Cherise Daniel (180-87, college: Ohio St.) chipped in 16 points. American power forward Jeanise Randolph (186-91, college: Cincinnati) produced a double-double by scoring 30 points and 14 rebounds and the former international forward Anna Spyridopoulou (184-88) added 10 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Proteas' coach Ioannis Ktistakis rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Athinaikos moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Niki Lefkadas. Proteas at the other side keeps the fourth position with seven games lost. Athinaikos is looking forward to face higher ranked PAOK (#3) in Thessaloniki in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Proteas will play at home against Aris Petropolis and is hoping to win this game.
