Regular Season Round 20: Zamarat - Azkoitia 87-56

Bottom-ranked Azkoitia (0-20) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 87-56 loss to eleventh ranked Zamarat (8-12) in Zamora on Sunday evening. The game was mostly controlled by Zamarat. Azkoitia managed to win third quarter 22-17. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Zamarat dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Azkoitia's 28. Zamarat forced 26 Azkoitia turnovers. Worth to mention a great performance of point guard Andrea Riley (165-88, college: Oklahoma St., agency: LBM Management) who helped to win the game recording 18 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Mariona Ortiz (183-92) who added 13 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 9 steals during the contest. Four Zamarat players scored in double figures. Serbian swingman Marina Markovic (185-91) responded with 14 points and 6 rebounds and Venezuelan point guard Roselis Silva (166-91, college: Arkansas Tech, agency: Gamble Sports Management) scored 11 points and 6 steals. Azkoitia's coach Joseba Guesalaga gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Zamarat moved-up to ninth place, which they share with Gipuzkoa UPV. Newly promoted Azkoitia still closes the standings. Zamarat will meet Gran Canaria (#13) in the next round. Azkoitia will play against Universitario de Ferrol and hopes to get finally their first victory.
