Regular Season Round 43: Olimpo BB - Estudiantes O. 77-79

The game between closely ranked teams ended with third ranked Estudiantes O.'s (17-15) road victory over 4th placed Olimpo (13-16) 79-77 on Monday. The guests were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. Estudiantes O. made 21-of-26 free shots (80.8 percent) during the game. Strangely Olimpo outrebounded Estudiantes O. 37-22 including 29 on the defensive glass. It was a great evening for forward Rodrigo Sanchez (200-89) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Point guard Diego Figueredo (180-91) helped adding 7 points and 4 assists. Estudiantes O.'s coach used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. At the losing side American-Venezuelan Clarence Matthews (201-83, college: Tennessee St.) responded with a double-double by scoring 41 points (!!!) and 13 rebounds (on 14-of-18 shooting from the field) and forward Emilio Gimenez (196-95) scored 7 points, 10 rebounds and 5 assists. The victory was the third consecutive win for Estudiantes O.. They moved-up to second place. Olimpo lost their fifth game in a row. Newly promoted team keeps the fourth position with 16 games lost. Estudiantes O. will face Petr.Argentino (#7) in Plaza Huincul in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Olimpo will play at home against Petr.Argentino and hope to win that game.
