The biggest surprise of round 1 in Liga Ouro took place in Rio de Janeiro where host Vasco Da G. (1-1) crushed Ginastico (1-1) 97-78 on Monday evening. Vasco Da G. dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Ginastico's 30 and made 22-of-29 free shots (75.9 percent) during the game. Vasco Da G. looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. 27 personal fouls committed by Ginastico helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Gaucho Zilmer (197-86) fired 20 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. The former international point guard Helio Vitor Lima (185-81) chipped in 11 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. Point guard Frederico Lima (180-80) produced 11 points and 6 assists and Fabricio Russo (196-85) added 16 points respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Ginastico's coach Jefferrson Teixeira rotated eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Ginastico will play next round against strong Campo Mourao. Vasco Da G. will try to continue on its current victory against Sport R. on the road.
