Regular Season Round 27: Santiago - Artemisa 101-78

Date: March 1, 2016
Bottom-ranked Santiago managed to get a seventh victory, breaking the series of two consecutive losses on Tuesday night. This time they outleveled seventh-ranked Los Toros 101-78. It's especially surprising that the victory came too easily and 23-point difference proves that Santiago was well-prepared to that game. They made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Santiago outrebounded Los Toros 26-12 including a 21-4 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Santiago especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 57.1 percentage. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Santiago made 12 blocks. It was a great evening for Eddy Hechevarria (193-86) who led his team to a victory scoring 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks. International forward Esteban Martinez (192-87) helped adding 25 points and 4 assists. Five Santiago players scored in double figures. The best for the losing side was forward Legismel Borlot (195-87) with 19 points and Sandro Marrero scored 16 points and 6 steals. Los Toros' coach gave up on the game allowing to play eleven players seeing no chance for a win. Santiago maintains eighth place with 7-16 record. Los Toros at the other side keep the seventh position with 16 games lost. Santiago will again meet at home higher ranked Los Toros (#7) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Los Toros will have a break next round.
