Regular Season Round 58: Lanus - Atenas 86-76

Date: March 2, 2016
We cannot really consider it an upset in the game between close teams in Buenos Aires where 9th ranked Atenas (17-26) was defeated by tenth ranked Lanus (16-25) 86-76 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 2-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 86-76. Naturalized Italian center Omar Canton (206-82) fired 20 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American forward John Millsap (198-82, college: UTSA, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 19 points. Millsap is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. The former international Diego Lo Grippo (198-78) produced 15 points and Canadian forward Kevin Thomas (203-92, college: Troy, agency: Tycoon Sports Inc.) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for lost side. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Atenas' coach Carlos Romano tested eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Lanus moved-up to eighth place. Loser Atenas keeps the ninth position with 26 games lost. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
