Very expected game when 13th ranked Gran Canaria (6-15) lost to ninth ranked Zamarat (9-12) in Las Palmas 52-69 on Wednesday. The game without a history. Zamarat led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated on the defensive end, holding Gran Canaria to just 6 points in third quarter. Strangely Gran Canaria outrebounded Zamarat 48-36 including a 22-10 advantage in offensive rebounds. It was a good game for Slovenian center Sandra Pirsic (196-84) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 19 rebounds. Point guard Mariona Ortiz (183-92) contributed with 12 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Zamarat players scored in double figures. The victory was the third consecutive win for Zamarat. They moved-up to eighth place, which they share with Ferrol. Gran Canaria lost their third game in a row. They keep the thirteenth position with 15 games lost. Zamarat will face higher ranked Mann Filter (#3) in Zaragoza in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory.
