Regular Season Round 18: Toulouse - Villeneuve 57-90
Date: March 2, 2016
Not a big story in a game when 11th ranked Toulouse (4-14) was rolled over at home by third ranked Villeneuve D'Ascq (13-4) 90-57. The game without a history. Villeneuve D'Ascq led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They shot 60.3 percent from the field. Villeneuve D'Ascq outrebounded Toulouse 39-25 including a 33-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. It was a great shooting night for Villeneuve D'Ascq especially from behind the arc, where they had solid 66.7 percentage. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Toulouse's players. They brought some defensive toughness making 7 blocks. It was a good game for the former international Johanne Gomis-Halilovic (179-85, agency: Comsport) who led her team to a victory with 19 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists (perfect from the field making all seven shots !!!). American forward Megan Mahoney (183-83, college: Kansas St., agency: LBM Management) contributed with 19 points and 6 assists (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field) for the winners. American forward Tianna Hawkins (191-91, college: Maryland) replied with 16 points and 5 rebounds and international point guard Olivia Epoupa (165-94, agency: Comsport) added 12 points and 5 assists in the effort for Toulouse. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Villeneuve D'Ascq have a solid four-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 13-4 record having four points less than leader Lattes Montp. Toulouse at the other side dropped to the twelfth place with 14 games lost. Villeneuve D'Ascq's next round opponent will be Charleville-Mez. (#4) at home. Toulouse will play against Arras (#14) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
