Regular Season Round 22: Alpo VR - Milano 69-80
Date: March 4, 2016
The game in Verona was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Milano (15-7) played at the court of 6th ranked Alpo VR (10-12). Milano defeated Alpo VR 80-69 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Milano. Alpo VR managed to win second period 25-24. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Milano dominated down low during the game scoring 48 of its points in the paint compared to Alpo VR's 28. They outrebounded Alpo VR 39-28 including a 29-18 advantage in defensive rebounds. Forward Giulia Maffenini (175-92) notched 33 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and British-Portuguese center Lavinia Da Silva (186-88) supported her with 10 points and 9 rebounds. Four Milano players scored in double figures. Milano's coach Franz Pinotti used an eleven-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds (made all of her eight free throws) by Bosnian Marina Dzinic (190-92) did not help to save the game for Alpo VR. Guard Elena Borsetto (168-93) added 12 points and 5 rebounds for lost side. Milano have a solid four-game winning streak. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Vicenza and San Pietro. Loser Alpo VR dropped to the seventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Milano will meet Virtus Cagliari (#14) on the road in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Alpo VR will play against Scrivia (#12) and hope to secure a win.
