Regular Season Round 22: Maccabi Ashdod - Maccabi Haifa 90-83

Very important is a road loss of third ranked Maccabi Haifa (13-9) against seventh ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-11) on Saturday night. Visiting Maccabi Haifa was defeated by Maccabi Ashdod in a tough game in Ashdod 83-90. The hosts took control from the first minutes by winning first half. But Maccabi Haifa won third quarter 22-18. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. The game was decided in the last minutes when Maccabi Ashdod won last quarter 30-24. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 27 assists. Maccabi Haifa was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. Naturalized American Willy Workman (198-90, college: Amherst) notched 18 points and 7 rebounds to lead the effort and American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) supported him with 18 points and 5 rebounds. Maccabi Ashdod's coach Zvi Sherf allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Even 18 points, 7 rebounds, 6 assists and 5 steals by Venezuelan point guard Gregory Vargas (180-86, agency: Pro Sports) did not help to save the game for Maccabi Haifa. American swingman Rene Rougeau (198-86, college: UNLV) added 11 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists for lost side. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Maccabi Ashdod maintains seventh position with 11-11 record. Maccabi Haifa at the other side keeps the third place with nine games lost.
