Regular Season Round 26: Caxias do Sul - Flamengo 80-97

There was no surprise when 13th ranked Caxias do Sul (8-18) was defeated at home by first ranked Flamengo (20-4) 97-80 on Sunday. The game was mostly controlled by Flamengo. Caxias do Sul was better in fourth quarter 35-29. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They made 26-of-27 free shots (96.3 percent) during the game. Flamengo outrebounded Caxias do Sul 42-27 including 27 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was the former international forward Olivinha Rodriguez (203-83) who had a double-double by scoring 29 points and 12 rebounds. The former international Marquinhos Vieira (207-84) chipped in 24 points and 5 rebounds (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!). Center Marcao Vinicius (205-84) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds and point guard Gobor Vinicius (185-90) added 12 points and 5 assists respectively for the hosts. Five Caxias do Sul players scored in double figures. Flamengo have a solid three-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 20-4 record. Loser Caxias do Sul dropped to the eleventh place with 18 games lost. Flamengo will face Brasilia (#6) at home in the next round where they are favorite.
