Regular Season Round 45: Atenas Carmen - Gimnasia LP 95-60

There was a small surprise when fifth ranked Atenas (15-17) crushed 5th ranked Gimnasia LP (15-17) in Carmen de Patagones 95-60 on Monday. The game without a history. Atenas led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 52 of its points in the paint compared to Gimnasia LP's 28. They outrebounded Gimnasia LP 42-28 including 32 on the defensive glass. It was a good game for American forward Howard Wilkerson (198-84, college: Wofford) who led his team to a victory with 20 points. Swingman Juan Manuel Ruiz (190-77) contributed with 18 points and 6 rebounds for the winners. Four Atenas players scored in double figures. Power forward Lisandro Villa (198-87) answered with 20 points and 6 rebounds and center Eduardo Vassirani (200-91) added 12 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Gimnasia LP. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Atenas moved-up to third place, which they share with defeated Gimnasia LP. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
