Regular Season Round 31: Marinos - Toros 84-82

Tenth-ranked Toros (7-16) gave a tough game to first ranked Marinos (20-7) in Puerto La Cruz on Tuesday. Marinos managed to secure only two-point victory 84-82. However their fans expected much easier game. The hosts trailed by 3 points at the halftime before their 24-17 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Marinos outrebounded Toros 41-26 including a 32-21 advantage in defensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 28 assists. It was a great evening for American point guard Dion Dixon (190-89, college: Cincinnati) who led his team to a victory scoring 19 points and 7 assists. The former international forward Juan Herrera (197-81) helped adding 10 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. At the losing side Dominican power forward Manuel Guzman (204-82, college: Bemidji St.) responded with 19 points and 8 rebounds and American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) scored 12 points and 7 assists. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Toros' coach Nacho Lezkano tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Defending champion maintains first place with 20-7 record. Toros at the other side stay at the bottom position with 16 games lost. Marinos are again looking forward to face bottom-ranked Toros (#10) in Maracay in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Toros will have a break next round.
