There was a surprise result when thirteenth ranked Caxias do Sul (8-18) edged on the road higher ranked Rio Claro (12-14) 75-74 on Wednesday. Rio Claro was trailing by 5 points at halftime but managed to get 3-point lead after three quarters before a 21-17 charge of Caxias do Sul, which allowed them to win the game. They made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. Strangely Rio Claro outrebounded Caxias do Sul 36-23 including 24 on the defensive glass. Rio Claro was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was Alex Oliveira (196-83) who scored 26 points. Forward Diego Conceicao (200-87) chipped in 18 points and 7 rebounds. The former international guard Guilherme Pereira (190-91) produced 27 points and 4 assists and the former international Andre Stefanelli (196-84) added 21 points respectively for the hosts. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Caxias do Sul moved-up to eleventh place. Rio Claro at the other side keeps the eighth position with 14 games lost. Caxias do Sul will have a break next round.
