Regular Season Round 23: Stelmet ZG - Trefl Sopot 102-79

TBL top team - Stelmet (21-2) had no problems winning another game on Wednesday. This time they crushed sixteenth ranked Trefl (5-20) in Zielona Gora 102-79. The game was mostly controlled by Stelmet. Trefl managed to win third quarter 25-20. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 50 of its points in the paint compared to Trefl's 30 and made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. Stelmet looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was a quality performance for the former international power forward Szymon Szewczyk (209-82) who led the winners and scored 21 points and 7 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field). International swingman Mateusz Ponitka (196-93) accounted for 15 points and 5 rebounds for the winning side. Coach Saso Filipovski's team controlled all game and the coach could let to play 10 players saving starting five for next games. Croatian Josip Bilinovac (191-90) came up with 17 points and South Sudanese center Ater Majok (208-87, college: Connecticut) added 18 points respectively for Trefl in the defeat. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. The victory was the twelfth consecutive win for Stelmet. Defending champion maintains first place with 21-2 record. Trefl lost their third game in a row. They keep the sixteenth position with 20 games lost. Stelmet will meet at home Stal Ostrow Wlkp. (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Trefl will play against AZS Polfarmex (#6) in Kutno and hope to secure a win.
