There was a minor upset when 12th ranked Sao Jose/Vinac (7-18) lost to fourteenth ranked Liga Sorocaba (7-16) in Sorocabana 66-78 on Friday. The game was mostly controlled by Liga Sorocaba. Sao Jose/Vinac was better in fourth quarter 16-15. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. It was a good game for guard Arlindo Neto (187-86) who led his team to a victory with 24 points, 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Point guard Alexandre Pinheiro (185-85) contributed with 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Four Liga Sorocaba players scored in double figures. American guard Scott Rodgers (191-87, college: Drexel, agency: DTMones) answered with 20 points and 8 rebounds and forward Arthur Bernardi (206-90, college: Houston Baptist) added 10 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Sao Jose/Vinac. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Liga Sorocaba moved-up to twelfth place. Sao Jose/Vinac lost seventh consecutive game. They dropped to the thirteenth position with 18 games lost. Liga Sorocaba will face higher ranked Vivo/Franca (#8) in Sao Paulo in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Sao Jose/Vinac will play at home against the league's leader Flamengo (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.
