Very important is a home loss of third ranked Guaiqueries (14-13) against fifth ranked Toros (10-17) on Friday night. Host Guaiqueries were defeated by Toros in a tough game in Porlamar 89-98. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Guaiqueries. Guaiqueries trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 23-21 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 89-98 at the end of the game. Toros made 16-of-20 free shots (80.0 percent) during the game. American point guard Andre Barrett (180-82, college: Seton Hall) nailed 20 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists (went 7 for 7 at the free throw line) for the winning side and the former international center Alejandro Barrios (204-79) accounted for 17 points and 7 rebounds. American center Dwayne Jones (211-83, college: St.Joseph's) came up with a double-double by scoring 16 points and 18 rebounds and the former international swingman Francisco Centeno (201-85) added 26 points respectively for Guaiqueries in the defeat. Five Toros and four Guaiqueries players scored in double figures. Guaiqueries' coach Gustavo Aranzana rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Toros have a solid series of three victories in a row. They maintain fifth place with 10-17 record. Loser Guaiqueries keep the third position with 13 games lost. Toros will meet at home higher ranked Panteras (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Guaiqueries will play against the league's leader Cocodrilos and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
