Regular Season Round 3: Ginastico - Campo Mourao 80-89

Very significant was Campo Mourao's (#1, 4-0) victory against Ginastico (1-3) 89-80. The guests were already 12 points ahead at halftime and as many as 13 after three quarters before a 30-26 last quarter charge of Ginastico cut the lead to 89-80 at the end of the game. Campo Mourao dominated on the defensive end, holding Ginastico to just 7 points in first quarter. Strangely Ginastico outrebounded Campo Mourao 41-28 including 17 on the offensive glass. Ginastico was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. It was an exceptional evening for American point guard Leon Sutton (185-88, college: Great Falls) who led the winners and scored 23 points (perfect behind the arc making all five shots). His fellow American import guard Milton Garner (185-90, college: Cameron) accounted for 15 points and 4 assists for the winning side. Sutton is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Campo Mourao players scored in double figures. Guard Alef Alves (185-95) came up with 21 points and 4 assists and Fabricio Russo (196-85) added 15 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for Ginastico in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Campo Mourao will play against Vasco Da G. in Rio de Janeiro in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Ginastico will have a break next round.
