Regular Season Round 2: Newcastle H. - Sydney Comets 72-48

There was a minor upset when Sydney City Comets (1-1) were smashed by Newcastle Hunters (1-1) in Broadmeadow 72-48 on Saturday. Newcastle Hunters held Sydney City Comets to an opponent 22.4 percent shooting from the field compared to 35.5 percent accuracy of the winners. Puerto Rican-American guard Justynn Hammond (196-87, college: Rogers St.) orchestrated the victory by scoring 28 points and 7 rebounds. The former international power forward Russell Hinder (208-79, college: Augusta) contributed with 8 points and 14 rebounds for the winners. Forward Luke Devlin (203-91, college: Albany) replied with 11 points and 9 rebounds and Adrian Cabrera added 10 points (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) in the effort for Sydney City Comets. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Newcastle Hunters will face Hawks (#11) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Sydney City Comets will play against Spiders in Hornsby and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
