Regular Season Round 23: Hapoel J-M - Maccabi Ashdod 95-64

Leader Hapoel Jerusalem delivered the seventeenth victory. This time they crushed 7th ranked Maccabi Ashdod (11-12) 95-64. The game was mostly controlled by Hapoel Jerusalem. Maccabi Ashdod was better in third quarter 24-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Hapoel Jerusalem dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Maccabi Ashdod's 32. They outrebounded Maccabi Ashdod 40-25 including a 35-16 advantage in defensive rebounds. Hapoel Jerusalem players were unselfish on offense dishing 30 assists comparing to just 17 passes made by Maccabi Ashdod's players. International forward Lior Eliyahu (205-85) orchestrated the victory by scoring 12 points, 6 rebounds and 8 assists. American-Bulgarian point guard Earl Rowland (188-83, college: St.Mary's, CA) contributed with 20 points (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) for the winners. Five Hapoel Jerusalem players scored in double figures. American point guard Isaiah Swann (188-85, college: Florida St.) answered with 25 points and 5 rebounds and the other American import point guard Diante Garrett (196-88, college: Iowa St.) added 14 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Maccabi Ashdod. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Defending champion maintains first place with 17-6 record. Maccabi Ashdod at the other side keeps the seventh position with 12 games lost. They share it with Hapoel Eilat. Hapoel Jerusalem will play against league's second-placed Maccabi T-A in Tel-Aviv in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Maccabi Ashdod will play at home against Maccabi K/G (#12) and hopes to get back on the winning track.
