Regular Season Round 22: San Pietro - Viterbo 58-49

No shocking result in a game when third ranked San Pietro (15-7) beat at home 8th ranked Viterbo (10-12) 58-49 on Sunday. The hosts were tied at the half but managed to speed up in last two quarters eventually winning the game. San Pietro dominated down low during the game scoring 40 of its points in the paint compared to Viterbo's 20. San Pietro forced 24 Viterbo turnovers. It was a very good performance for swingman Irene Pieropan (180-91) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 10 points and 11 rebounds. Point guard Mariella Santucci (178-97) contributed with 12 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. Four San Pietro players scored in double figures. Forward Anna Romagnoli (175-92) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points and 10 rebounds and Giulia Ciavarella (181-97) added 14 points and 8 rebounds in the effort for Viterbo. Both coaches used bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. San Pietro maintains third position with 15-7 record having nine points less than leader La Spezia, which they share with Vicenza and Milano. Viterbo lost fourth consecutive game. They dropped to the seventh place with 12 games lost. San Pietro will face league's leader La Spezia on the road in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Viterbo will play against Castellammare (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
