Regular Season Round 22: Vicenza - Cagliari V. 64-41

Very expected game when 14th ranked Virtus Cagliari (4-19) was smashed on the road by third ranked Vicenza (15-7) 64-41 on Sunday. The hosts trailed by 1 point after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 13-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 64-41. Vicenza dominated down low during the game scoring 44 of its points in the paint compared to Virtus Cagliari's 24. Vicenza forced 23 Virtus Cagliari turnovers. It was a very good performance for swingman Laura Benko (180-83, agency: Players Group) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 rebounds. Guard Valentina Stoppa (172-85) contributed with 11 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. Croatian forward Mia Masic (180-93) replied with a double-double by scoring 10 points and 12 rebounds (made all of her nine free throws !!!) and the former international power forward Silvia Sarni (188-87) added 7 points and 9 rebounds in the effort for Virtus Cagliari. Virtus Cagliari's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Vicenza maintains third position with 15-7 record having nine points less than leader La Spezia, which they share with Milano and San Pietro. Loser Virtus Cagliari keeps the fourteenth place with 19 games lost. Vicenza will face Marghera (#7) in Venezia in the next round. Virtus Cagliari will play at home against Milano (#4) and hope to win that game.
