Regular Season Round 65: Penarol - Olimpico LB 81-85

Date: March 15, 2016
No shocking result in a game in Mar del Plata where first ranked Olimpico de La Banda (30-13) defeated 3rd placed Penarol (24-19) 85-81 on Tuesday. The guests trailed by 7 points at the halftime before their 28-16 charge in the third quarter, which allowed them to win the game. Olimpico de La Banda made 25-of-33 free shots (75.8 percent) during the game. Penarol was plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Justin Williams (206-84, college: Wyoming) who had a double-double by scoring 10 points, 18 rebounds and 5 blocks. The former international Diego Guaita (203-83) chipped in 17 points. Five Olimpico de La Banda players scored in double figures. International swingman Nicolas Brussino (200-93) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and the former international forward Leonardo Gutierrez (200-78) added 11 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists respectively for the hosts. Penarol's coach Sergio Hernandez rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Olimpico de La Banda maintains first place with 30-13 record. Loser Penarol keeps the third position with 19 games lost. Olimpico de La Banda will face Quilmes MP (#7) in Mar del Plata in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Penarol will play at home against Ferrocarril O. (#8) and hope to win that game.
