Regular Season Round 49: Gimnasia LP - Atenas Carmen 83-87

Rather predictable result in La Plata where third ranked Atenas (17-17) defeated 6th ranked Gimnasia LP (15-19) 87-83 on Tuesday. Gimnasia LP trailed by 11 points after 3 quarters before a 27-20 run in the last quarter cut the deficit to 83-87 at the end of the game. Gimnasia LP was plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. The former international center Ezequiel Dentis (206-82) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 10 rebounds for the winners and swingman Federico Grun (192-96) chipped in 16 points and 7 rebounds. At the losing side center Eduardo Vassirani (200-91) responded with a double-double by scoring 22 points and 13 rebounds and point guard Leonardo La Bella (180-86) scored 20 points and 4 assists. Five Gimnasia LP players scored in double figures. Gimnasia LP's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Atenas have a solid series of three victories in a row. Newly promoted Atenas maintains third place with 17-17 record having just three points less than leader Platense, which they share with Echague and Parque Sur. Gimnasia LP lost fourth consecutive game. Gimnasia LP at the other side, also newcomer in the league, keeps the sixth position with 19 games lost. Atenas will face league's leader CA Platense in Florida in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Gimnasia LP will play on the road against Estudiantes O. (#3) in Olavarria and hope to win that game.
