The most exciting game of round 5 in the CIBACOPA took place in Hermosillo. This derby game ended with only one-point defeat on the road of 11th ranked Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon (1-3) to leader Rayos de Hermosillo (4-0) 81-80 on Wednesday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. The hosts trailed by 3 points after first quarter, but they rallied back to get the 6-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 81-80. The best player for the winners was American swingman Michael Craig (196-91, college: S.Mississippi) who had a double-double by scoring 26 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists. His fellow American import power forward Paul Butorac (208-83, college: E.Washington) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 13 rebounds. American guard Malcolm Canada (191, college: Auburn) produced 25 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists and naturalized American swingman Adam Arciniega (201, college: Bethel, KS) added 23 points and 7 rebounds respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Rayos de Hermosillo have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Newly promoted Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon stay at the bottom position with three games lost. They share it with Agua Prieta and Navolato. Rayos de Hermosillo are looking forward to face Lobos UAD Mazatlan (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Trigueros de Ciudad Obregon will have a break next round.
