There was no surprise when 10th ranked Gipuzkoa UPV (9-15) was defeated on the road by sixth ranked Gernika (14-10) 79-68 on Saturday. The game was mostly controlled by Gernika. Gipuzkoa UPV was better in third quarter 21-12. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They outrebounded Gipuzkoa UPV 34-13 including a 24-7 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was American forward Ariel Edwards (190-92, college: Penn St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) who had a double-double by scoring 20 points and 11 rebounds. Argentinian center Gisela Vega (188-82, agency: Josep and Nicolas) chipped in 12 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was Polish forward Daria Mieloszynska (188-83, college: Texas, agency: Interperformances) who recorded 23 points and American center Cierra Bravard (193-89, college: Florida St., agency: Josep and Nicolas) added 17 points respectively. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Gipuzkoa UPV's coach Aranzazu Muguruza let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Gernika maintains sixth position with 14-10 record. Loser Gipuzkoa UPV keeps the tenth place with 15 games lost. Gernika will face bottom-ranked Azkoitia (#14) in Azpeitia in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Gipuzkoa UPV will play on the road against Campus Promete (#12) in Logrono and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
